A practice that restores balance and harmony

Our approach to wellness is holistic and balanced. In our personal wellbeing practices we combine modern techniques with ancient practices to align mind, body and spirit. We enjoy practices modalities that are new to us and diving a little deeper into those we have practiced for some time.

Part of a life-long wellness journey is a commitment to the practices that invoke a recovery response and down regulate the nervous system in an attempt to bring a feeling of balance and harmony into the present moment.

Thanks to the team at Kula Body, our local yoga and Pilates studio we have discovered TRE® (Trauma Release Exercises), also referred to as Nervous System Release. We loved the first session so much we invited a group of our Inu8 'Besties' to share the experience. Since then we have made it a regular practice and have evangelically shared the benefits with others.

As the long form name suggests the practice includes an innovative series of exercises that assist the body in releasing deep muscular patterns of stress, tension and trauma that are present in the nervous system. The exercises safely activate a natural reflex mechanism of shaking or vibrating that releases muscular tension, calming down the nervous system. When this muscular shaking/vibrating mechanism is activated in a safe and controlled environment, the body is encouraged to return back to a state of balance.
Life is a balance of holding on and letting go. - Rumi

The muscle vibrations generally feel pleasant and soothing and whilst the experience is different for everyone there is an underlying feeling of release and a simultaneous feeling of relaxation that floods the body. Feelings of calmness and clarity are not limited to the time on the mat or in the studio. The feelings continue long after the class and are a reminder that we can always access the peace that exists within if we put our attention and intention on achieving this state.

Melissa, our divinely guided teacher brings her experience and deep wisdom to the class. She guides the entire process, which is always gentle, yet can be extremely profound as energy shifts and flows freely again. She bears witness to the afterglow of each class. Melissa also offers guidance for creating the experience at home. It is a beautiful tool that once learned, can be used independently as needed. And this is where the real magic lies, as we can truly support ourselves with a toolbox of body-based techniques to relax and rebalance.

TRE® does not require mental focus, any physical effort or the need to recall the past or talk about it. All it requires is the trust that our body knows just what to do when we give it the right environment. And, a practice with Melissa is not complete without singing bowls and sound bathing.

Take the time to do some of your own research, find a local teacher and experience this practice for yourself so you have another tool available to manage stress and connect to the deep peace that exists within you.
